Mr. Leinin is a Member of the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety and Delegation for Relations to India. He has held many significant portfolios including that of the Vice-President of the European Environmental Bureau, Brussels, President of the Union of European Federalists and Vice-President, International European Movement. He has also served as the Vice-Chairman, Committee on Constitutional Affairs and Chairman, Committee on Constitutional Affairs. He played an important role as a Member of the delegation of the European Parliament in the Convention drafting a Charter of Fundamental Rights of the EU in 2000.
For his immense contribution to the cause of environment, he was awarded the German Environment Foundation Prize.
He obtained his graduation from the Collège de l’Europe, Bruges and was qualified as a lawyer in Freiburg/Breisgau
