
Hon’ble Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India
Dr Moily has implemented and formulated many pioneering concepts in his 40 years of public life, policy-making, governance and politics.
He was a practicing lawyer before taking on the role Minister of Small Scale Industries and then becoming Minister of Finance and Planning during 1980-82. Subsequently, he took on the responsibilities of Minister of Law, Youth service, Culture, Information, Parliamentary Affairs and education during 1989-92. He served Karnataka as its Chief Minister till 1994 before various stints at the national level as Chairman of Tax Reforms Commission, Revenue Commission and Administrative Reforms Commission, Govt. of India. He was inducted into the Union Cabinet in 2009 as Minister for Law and Justice and subsequently held the portfolio of Corporate Affairs.
Dr. Moily is also a Kannada literary figure with many novels and plays to his credit including Tembare and Kotta. He has also published three anthologies of poems and written an epic called Sri Ramayana Mahanveshanam and there are more contributions on the way, including another epic on Draupadi called Shrimudi Parikranam on his unstoppable journey in literature.
He was conferred the Next Step Foundation Award by the Foundation of U.K., House of Commons, for his outstanding contribution to judiciary in India.
A Bachelor of Law from the Government of Law College of Bangalore, Dr. Moily was awarded an honorary doctorate by the Mangalore University, as well as by the Russian Academy and the NALSAR, Hyderabad.
